Shopping List

750 ML Full-bodied dry red wine, 2 bottles (ex: Syrah, Cab, or Grenache)

Aquavit, 4 oz

Ruby port, 2 oz

Cinnamon sticks, 3x

Whole cloves, 12x

Green cardamom pods, 4x

Whole nutmeg, 1x

Star anise, 2x

Granulated sugar, 3/4 cup

Zest of 1 orange

Zest of 1 lemon

Dehydrated orange slice


  1. Prepare all the ingredients

How to cook

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, combine the wine, aquavit, and ruby port
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, toast the spices until aromatic. Add into the pot with the wine
  3. Add sugar, zest of an orange and zest of a lemon.
  4. Simmer for 30 mins or until raw alcohol flavor has gone.
  5. Strain and serve warm or chill and serve cooled.
  6. Garnish with dehydrated orange slices.
